Files or links in the Command Prompt window

Dragging a file or a shortcut to the Command Prompt window is not supported in this version of Windows. However, if you want to quickly enter the path to a file or a shortcut to the Command Prompt window, you can use the Copy as Path.

To use the Copy as Path command

To open a command prompt, click Start, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then Command Prompt.

In a separate window to view the link or file that you want to copy the path.

Click the right mouse button on the link or file by holding down SHIFT, and then click Copy as Path.

Go to the Command Prompt window, click the right mouse button to where you want to enter the path and then click Paste.
